About SmileLyra

Why this exists

Dental practice websites are getting sued over accessibility at a rate almost none of their owners know about — and most owners have no way to find out until a demand letter shows up.

The Short Version

Working around dental practice websites made one thing obvious: almost none of them would pass a basic accessibility check. Missing alt text, unlabeled form fields, contrast failures, no keyboard access — the kind of problems that are invisible until a patient using a screen reader, or a plaintiff's attorney, runs into them.

Practices weren't ignoring the problem — nobody had told them it existed. And the stakes stopped being theoretical once ADA Title III web-accessibility suits passed 5,000 in a single year, and HHS set a hard WCAG 2.1 AA deadline for healthcare providers receiving federal funding, due May 2027.

A lot of what's sold as "ADA compliance" for small business sites is a JavaScript overlay that changes how a page looks to an automated scanner, not how it works for an actual screen-reader user. That's not documentation, and it's not a defense. SmileLyra runs the real scanning stack — axe-core, Lighthouse, WAVE, and a real-browser interaction layer, plus an AI-assisted review pass — and hands back a plain, code-level list of what's actually broken, so a practice or its developer has something real to act on and a dated record of good-faith effort to point to.

Methodology

What actually runs, every time

axe-core

Programmatic WCAG rule violations — missing labels, contrast, ARIA errors.

Lighthouse

Google’s accessibility score, tied to WCAG success criteria.

WAVE

WebAIM’s independent error and contrast cross-check.

Playwright

Real-browser keyboard reachability and focus-visibility testing.

AI-assisted review

Reviews screenshots and code for issues rule engines miss, then ranks and themes them.

No step in this pipeline is a person eyeballing your site and signing off — it's automated tools plus an AI review pass, every time, and we say so plainly. Automated testing catches an estimated 30–40% of WCAG issues; manual testing by an outside qualified evaluator is still the right call for full assurance, and we tell every customer that rather than imply otherwise.
